SGTS uses a “blended mode” or “open university” model of education. This approach is non-residential, meaning that students are not required to attend lectures on a full time basis throughout the academic year. The basis of the instruction provided will be study guides, text books and other learning materials (e.g. audio materials) which will be supplied for each module. The study guide will lead students through the curriculum by providing learning activities which will help them to master the learning outcomes for each module.

In addition to this self-study component, which forms the basis of the instruction, SGTS will facilitate students’ learning and growth in the following ways:

• There will be two weeks of lectures, one week near the beginning and one week near the end of the academic year. These lectures will be presented in different centres so as to enable students to attend with a minimum of difficulty. (Please see section 3.1 of the Prospectus to see where and when these lectures will be presented.)


• The Lusaka Saturday Programme will offer lectures and seminars on two Saturdays every month.


• SGTS will partner with local churches so that, wherever possible, students can benefit from the spiritual and theological guidance of experienced pastors.


• SGTS will make use of modern technology, especially computers, internet, email and telecommunications to facilitate communication between lecturers and students, as well as amongst students.
